the Crucible...What I learned from a bunch of 8th graders.

There are few things better for someone who invests their life into people to “get it”, than actually watching them get it. Whatever “it” may be… it is incredible to watch and play a part in the process of people “getting it.” This last weekend the 8th grade guys took part in a “rite of passage” event called the crucible. The event is designed and intended to showcase the characteristics of a godly man followed by a series of “tasks” that illustrate these characteristics. (a short description).
Contrary to belief, (for obvious reasons), you actually can learn something from a middle school student. These young men learned and experienced the essence of true COMMUNITY, the world where ME is a distant second, if on the map at all. It was amazing to witness these young men do whatever it took to make sure that everyone… let me say that again (well, write it again) EVERYONE was successful. No one quits. No one is left behind. No one fails. If one did, they all did. The essence of pure community… the essence of sacrifice… the essence of love. It was a beautiful sight.

“They will know that we follow Christ, by the way that we love.” THEY GOT IT… will we?
Are we prepared to whatever it takes to create community?

It was wonderful even for the short time it was there, i just really hope i follow through and start living like that everyday.

Obviously i wasn't there because i'm a girl!! but i went to the efflorescence with the 8th grade girls and on friday night i could see them all "get it"! I mean i went through Chrysalis last year and "got it" but it is so awesome to see God work in other people's lives, and to watch them "get it" too!!

Thats what all of us who went through the crucible need to remember and live by. No one gets left behind, no one goes unloved, no one goes unaccounted for. Remember those characteristics we were tought and live like a Godly man. The crucible wasn't just do a few "quiet times", go to a weekend and forget it ever happened. It was a way of molding us into men and showing us the best way we could lead the student ministry. You wouldnt teach a swimmer a bunch of football plays, because he would never use them. You wouldnt teach a 95 year old man how to play Kraig ball because he would never make it around the table. SO why should they teach us how to be leaders if we are not going to lead?

yip yip kyle, yip yip.
